The Name of Jesus Christ

The Name of Jesus Christ
Name Above All Names
Jesus taught us to pray to the Heavenly Father, In His Name.
John 14:13-14          13 "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.          14 "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
John 15:16     "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain,    that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
John 16:23-24    23 "And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.    24 "Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
We read in the Book of Acts, the importance of speaking the Name of Jesus:
Acts 2:38     Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk."
Acts 4:10 "let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified,  whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole.
Even the people who didn’t believe, realized the importance of the Name of Jesus.   They tried to stop the disciples from speaking in it:
Acts 4:18-20    18 And they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.    19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge.    20 "For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard."
There is power in the Name of Jesus to cast out demons:
Acts 16:18     And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit,  "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And he came out that very hour.
There is power in the Name of Jesus to heal the sick:
Acts 3:6-8    6 Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk."    7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.    8 So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them-- walking, leaping, and praising God.
Acts 3:16 "And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.
Foremost, we have to be a born again child of God. We must have received Jesus Christ into our heart as Lord and Savior.   The book of Acts gives an example of men who tried to use the Name of Jesus but were not saved:
Acts 19:13-17     13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, "We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches."  14 Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so.  15 And the evil spirit answered and said, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?"   16 Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.  17 This became known both to all Jews and Greeks dwelling in Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
To become a Christian we do the following:
Rom 10:9-10  9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
After we are saved by receiving Jesus Christ, we should be baptized to show the world we are now a Christian.
Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
We must be willing to follow our Lord Jesus Christ completely:
Acts 15:26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Rev 12:11 "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
Just as Paul in last verse in the book of Acts taught about the Lord Jesus Christ with confidence, we too are tell others about our Lord Jesus Christ!
Acts 28:31 preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.
Matt 28:19-20    19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,    20 "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
